When America Ceases To Be Good

Today’s words from the week come from French writer Alexis de Tocqueville. After visiting America in 1831, he said, “I sought for the greatness of the United States in her commodious harbors, her ample rivers, her fertile fields, and boundless forests — and it was not there. I sought for it in her rich mines, her vast world commerce, her public school system, and in her institutions of higher learning — and it was not there. I looked for it in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution — and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because America is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great!”

Just a thought …

THOUGHT TO REMEMBER: God is a great big HEART!

First of all, this is Memorial Day. This is the day when we honor our military personnel who lost their lives while serving in our military services. Being a veteran myself, I honor the memory of those who served our country in our military.

I know of two attendees of Don Bosco Tech who died in Vietnam. Bob Betz, who was KIA in 1964, and Danny Thompson who was KIA in May of 1968. Class of 1966. I came home from Vietnam in August of 1968. The day after I came home, my father asked me if I remembered Danny Thompson. I said: Oh yeah, I remember Danny. He then told me that Danny was killed in action in May of 1968. I was stunned, and I didn’t even know he was in Nam. Danny was a really good kid. The first thing I thought of was, of all the rotten people in this world why couldn’t it have been one of them instead of Danny.

Bob and Danny….rest in peace. We will meet again in the afterlife.

This was a great country at one time, but this country has been going steadily downhill for some time now. Just like the Roman Empire, this country is crumbling from within. Take a good look at the internet. People constantly acting like 5 year olds, and playing the blame game, and ranting and raging at each other. The lowlife politicians continually feeding the fire, and playing the divide and conquer game. They will do anything, say anything,to get into power and keep themselves in power. In the interim, this country goes deeper into debt, and nothing is being accomplished. Kind of like Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burns.

I’m 72, so I won’t be here much longer. Maybe another 10 years. I try to be positive, but I can see the handwriting on the wall. I won’t be here to see this country devolve into civil war, and tear itself apart. Unfortunately, I think this will eventually occur.

    Bruce
