Midweek Mirth

One of the misconceptions about being a Christian is non-Christians think we don’t know how to have fun or have a sense of humor. Trust me, if the Big Guy can have a sense of humor when it comes to dealing with us mere mortals, so can we.

The difference for Christians is we don’t have to debase ourselves or others to generate a smile. Laughter at life or ourselves is a gift from God.

Here’s this week’s edition of Midweek Mirth  … so let’s smile a little!

The Privileged Rich

“Take a pencil and paper,” the teacher said, “and write an essay with the title If I Were a Millionaire.” Everyone but Philip, who leaned back with arms folded, began to write furiously.

“What’s the matter,” the teacher asked. “Why don’t you begin?”

“I’m waiting for my secretary,” he replied.

And now for the bonus …

The Music Critic

A couple phoned a neighbor to extend birthday greetings. They dialed the number and then sang Happy Birthday to him. But when they finished their off-key rendition, they discovered they had dialed the wrong number.

“Don’t let it bother you,” said a strange but amused voice. “You folks need all the practice you can get.”

Loved them all – re: the quote – over the years, during immense physical pain, and providers working on ‘fixing’ it – sans the relief of various drugs, cuz I didn’t have anyone to drive me home, or I had to get back to work, at some point, I’d start laughing – they would ask, and I’d say, “I’m laughing to keep from crying – but I do believe we may be soon nearing the cursing stage, so put your ear plugs in” – Sadly, I was raised in the Great Tradition of “never let them see you cry” and “quit wearing your heart on your sleeve” – I’ve learned to get teary in front of others, but pretty much, I still find myself stifling the urge to cry in front of strangers, through laughing and cursing, if need be….sigh –

    • Laughter and tears are close cousins. (Cursing is related too)

My mom once commented on my ‘running commentary’ while driving in less than ideal conditions, saying, “You’re so angry, I’m afraid you will die of a heart attack” – and I said, “Nope, I’m least likely to do so, cuz I just cuss out that so and so, sarcastically say, “may you and yours get safely to the ER, cuz the way you’re driving, that simply must be where you’re headed too…” and I’m done, and it’s ‘off my chest’ thus, no pressure on my heart – – she didn’t buy it then, she still doesn’t – – she’s a lady – 🙂 But she forgives me when I’m not lady like, and if someone is giving her flak, and she’s not up to dealing with it, she knows who to send into the fray and get it ‘handled’ – in short order – – LOL – it works for us on some level – – LOL

LOL – that said – medical personnel who paid for their education via military service OR who were field medics, etc., are my ‘personal’ choice when going gets rough and I need patched up quickly to get back on ‘the field’ – they ADMIRE my creative use/blending of cursing and other words to ‘soldier on’ – LOL – which is why, I figure, why give up such a talent? LOL
