Unmet Goals

I’m sharing the words of Denis Waitley as this week’s Words for the Week.

The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, or even seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.

Waitley is an American motivational speaker, writer and consultant.

    I have met damn few goals,
    and now my race is nearly run,
    but I maintain that life is whole,
    and on the whole, I’ve won.
    The dream is not the destination
    for which we ache in longing,
    but rather a Divine causation
    that points to their belonging
    to a plane beyond our ken,
    and to a thoughtful Presence
    that molds from clay His children, men,
    and makes their highest goals His essence.
    On earth, our hopes’ maternity
    births citizens of Eternity.

    I once saw an Easter poster that read: Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans. Sometimes, life takes someone in a different direction than to a place where they expected to be. As we age and mature, our perspectives about what is important in life can change and evolve. My basic attitude is whatever I choose to do in life, do it to the best of my ability, and do it well. I have succeeded in this endeavor. Later in life I have discovered new talents that I didn’t even know I was capable of. Seemingly came out of no where. Life is a journey and a series of experiences. Life itself is a teacher. We learn as we go through life. From a spiritual point of view, I honestly believe we are here for our spiritual development. When we cross over for the final time, and return to spiritual form, we may be asked a question. What have you learned from your human experience ?
