Five Minute Friday — Expect

Here’s this week’s installment of Five Minute Friday.

This week’s prompt is EXPECT. The timer is set … so here goes. {clock starts now}

It’s Saturday. Did you really expect a Five Minute Friday on Friday?

Seriously, I was told the other day I was predictably unpredictable … a structured free spirit.

I never really heard that description before, so when I pressed further, I was told people expect me to act or react in a certain way … only they never know what to expect because I typically put my own spin on things.

Hmmm

I hadn’t thought of that before … but yes, I suppose it’s pretty much true, not only for me but for most of us. We are expected to act or react a certain way by others. And we set the bar on how we expect ourselves to act and react. It’s based on our history, right or wrong.

It’s those in between times that catch people unaware — ourselves included. I expect to act with integrity and poise with a little bit of humor thrown in. But I don’t always and that throws me off and surprises others.

No one is exempt from the expectation … STOP

… game. Life has a way of throwing unexpected challenges — and opportunities — our way. Even Jesus faced these moments. I don’t think He expected to turn water into wine at Cana, nor did He expect His troops to fall asleep in the garden. Oh, wait, He probably did expect that.

The point is not the dealing with unplanned challenges, but the how … and sometimes that is not what is expected.

Well, that’s what popped into this mind this week.

You might remember the task is to write for five minutes on a specific prompt word. The initiative continues at Kate’s place (http://katemotaung.com/2016/05/19/five-minute-friday-expect/) where a host of us gather to share our thoughts in a “fast-writing, free-flowing, faith-building community” [Kate’s word I heartily echo] with often not a perfect post, not a profound post, but just five minutes of focused writing. Hope you stop by. And you’re always welcome to join in!

THOUGHT TO REMEMBER: All the good ones, no matter what it is, are taken.

Excellent post on the prompt! But then, you’ve come to expect that I will love what you write, or ask you a question if I don’t get ‘it’…right? Hmmm…Yes, Um…No… Can’t tell a lie or be spontaneous in order to be different – 🙂 LOL – Love this post and gave me a nugget of wisdom to think about as I head into next week where people expect me to do what they’ve always wanted, where I have put in fail safes to be me and not hurt others by NOT doing things that, ultimately, just keep folks stuck in their ruts, AND, meet the unknowns from old hurts, with the mantra, “That was then, This is Now, I can love and protect without envisioning/preparing for the worst” – I’m sure I’ll blog about next weekend sometime in the coming year – Sometimes (OFTEN! LOL) I need that Pondering Time in order to sort out where I can do better, where I need to ‘let it go/move on” etc…. Really dislike rushing the experience of learning unless absolutely necessary, doncha know….)

Anyways, I’m laid up with a bum knee, (which I’ve dubbed, “landscaping/spring/gardening knee after winter of sitting in front of computer doing work and breaks not spent in maintaining lower body tone/strength…”) – LOL – But, worst over and waiting one more day before I carefully enter the “So Much To Do to Even Come Close to Abundant, Relaxing, Full of Grace” garden plans” space – cuz ya know – I’ll overdo or injure myself – LOL – BUT perfect time to get caught up with my blog pals and just wanted to touch base, let you know, I still So Appreciate Your Gift of Writing and I’m Chuggin’ on here! 🙂

    • Always good to hear from you! Sorry about the knee. Hope it heals well … and don’t re-aggravate it!

After week, had it checked out – no tears/bad injury – simply a matter of winter of do-nothing desk/computer work, followed by frenzy of outdoor activity – have my ‘game plan’ for healing! Thank You and glad to catch up on your work – albeit, I got sidetracked on post for another beloved bloggy bud – – LOL 🙂 Sigh – If I just log in, read, hit the ‘like’ button, I catch up with doins’ with fave folks much sooner! LOL Mea Culpa – 🙂

When you said life will sometimes catch us unaware I was reminded of the verse that says to be instant in season and out. I guess God always wants us to be in tune with Him no matter the unexpected.

I guess the only thing we can expect from life is the unexpected.

    • Amen. Thanks. I followed your post as well and enjoyed your thoughts. That’s the beauty of FMF … the diversity yet reality of a body of believers. Really liked the line “can’t even sandblast them from my heart”. Nice visualization.
